Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located, and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Hello, Patrick here, one of the owners of PH Electric LLC. We are an electrical contracting business in northern Colorado that services Livermore, Laporte, Wellington, Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, and more. We do everything from remodels and new builds to service calls, panel upgrades, EV chargers, lighting enhancements, and more.

Kindly give us a brief description of yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

We are lucky enough to have a 3 person leadership team. Patrick, our Master electrician, has been in the trades for over 20 years and prides himself on fostering open lines of communication with other industry professionals to make sure projects stay on track and up to date with any code changes. Rocco is our lead Journeyman who keeps our team members on task and in communication and has an eagle eye for the details. Meaghan is our office manager, and she keeps the wheels turning behind the scenes. All of our experience in the variety of industries that interplay with electrical contracting make us a unique solution to your electrical problems.

What inspired you to start a new business venture or make significant changes in an existing business? How did the idea for your business come about?

Patrick was inspired to start a business because he was frustrated by previous employers asking him to cut corners, which threatened the safety of buildings and people alike.

What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

1) Just do it; your doubts are harder than reality!

2) Rally your community – tell people you’re starting a business, what a good referral would be for you, and find ways to get involved.

3) Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, but also make sure you learn from them!

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Have a clear vision with actionable steps to execute it. Be organized – be willing to delegate tasks. Hire the person, not the position – find the people who share in your vision and you can trust to represent you.

How many hours do you work a day on average?

12 hours a day during the week and as needed on the weekends. There’s no such thing as a holiday!

To what do you most attribute your success?

I couldn’t have started this without my wife, Meaghan.

How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

We have been entirely word-of-mouth marketing – happy clients are the best referrals!

Where did your organization’s funding/capital come from, and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?

We just took what money we had and built every job wire by wire.

What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

We will let you know when we do it! Every day is building on the previous.

Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

We hope PH Electric is thriving in 5-10 years, with some new faces, all of the current faces, and that includes both on the employee and customer side.

Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

The best part of being in Northern Colorado is the plethora of successful small businesses; no matter where we turn, there’s a business doing something innovative or well that we are inspired by.

How important have good employees been to your success?

The key to success and growing the business is hiring the right people. The employees are our face to the public and represent us in people’s homes.

What motivates you?

Taking care of our employees and their families.

What are your ideals?

Honesty – Speaking the truth and being transparent.

Hard Work – Putting in effort and dedication to achieve success.

Respect – Treating others with kindness and fairness.

Accountability – Taking responsibility for one’s actions.

How do you generate new ideas?

Collaborate with other small business owners.

How do you build a successful customer base?

Show up when you say you will, look at the small details and the larger picture, communicate about projects promptly with owners, and empower owners to be decision-makers with you.

What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Being able to set my schedule and prioritize family.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Coaching apprentices through the years to be independent and successful electricians themselves. We need more people in trades in general, but especially those who take pride in their craftsmanship.

What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

Having my name behind the project means safety and completeness is my promise to the customer. Whether that means staying late or helping an owner make a change to the plan, we are in it together.

What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone, and why did you institute this particular type of culture?

At PH Electric LLC, our team culture is built on respect, collaboration, and empowerment. Every team member has a voice and plays a vital role in representing our company with pride. We foster an environment where everyone feels valued, encouraged to contribute ideas, and committed to delivering high-quality work.

If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

I would have chosen the Electrical path from the start!

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

We are closer as we work together for the success of the business and our future.

What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

My greatest fear is failure, cliche or not, and I manage it by working hard and breaking up big tasks into small pieces to make them more manageable so I can have a lot of little wins throughout that larger task.

How did you decide on the location for your business?

We wanted to work in the community we lived in.

What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

Getting outdoors with our dogs and golfing.
