1. Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business.
My business name is All Ways Moving, which I started in 2009. We currently have three locations, with our headquarters in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and two sales offices in New Bern and Havelock, North Carolina. We offer full-service moving, both local and long-distance, so we can move you anywhere in the United States. We provide a wide range of services related to moving—everything from packing, supply stores, and rental trucks to storage units and white glove moving.
2. Kindly give us a brief description of yourself.
My name is Matthew Raley, and I am the owner of Always Moving. I started the company in 2009, but have been in the moving industry since around 2007. My stepdad and mom owned a moving company, so I’ve been around the business most of my life. I launched Always Moving at 19 and have learned many valuable lessons along the way.
3. What inspired you to start a new business venture?
I wanted to help people during one of the most stressful times in their lives—moving. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and seeing a moving company in action inspired me to start my own.
4. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

5. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
- A strong mindset
- Financial responsibility
- Grit
6. How many hours do you work a day on average?
I’m involved in the business every day. It’s not work anymore—it’s a way of life. In the beginning, the business took up most of my time, but over time, I found balance.
7. To what do you most attribute your success?
Persistence.
8. How do you go about marketing your business?
We use direct mail, Google Ads, SEO, flyers, business cards, and vehicle wraps. We’re active on Facebook, place signs around town, and attend local events. We’re always finding new ways to get our name out there.
9. Where did your organization’s funding/capital come from?
We’ve only financed trucks—our second and fifth. Besides that, we use a business credit card and haven’t needed outside funding.
10. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Persistence. With time, you improve processes, build better teams, and grow smarter.
11. Where do you see yourself and your business in 5–10 years?
Still running Always Moving, continuing to deliver top-tier service. Rather than expanding geographically, we’ll grow locally and refine our operations.
12. Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
I admire many businesses, especially those in the moving industry. I respect how tough this field can be and appreciate both newcomers and established names.
13. How important have good employees been to your success?
Good employees are essential. Our business is all about labor, so quality team members make all the difference.
14. How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
I give ideas time, but stay mindful of their financial impact. If something isn’t working, I reevaluate and adjust.
15. What motivates you?
My wife and kids.
