- Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).
Our founding team brings more than 25 years of combined experience in the IT, cybersecurity and digital marketing industries. Our expertise includes cybersecurity, website design and development, search engine optimization (SEO), paid advertising, social media marketing, digital strategy and business growth. Our professional credentials include prestigious certifications like CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional), Google Ads, Google Digital Marketing and E-commerce, Apple Search Ads and TikTok Marketing certifications. This combination of technical expertise, marketing knowledge and hands-on industry experience allows us to develop secure, data-driven digital solutions tailored to the needs of local businesses. As immigrant entrepreneurs, we understand the dedication, resilience and determination required to build a business from the ground up. This experience inspired us to establish Boost Local Business, an Ontario-based digital marketing agency that helps local contractors and small-to-medium-sized businesses improve their online visibility, attract qualified leads and achieve sustainable growth. One of our proudest achievements is building a trusted agency that brings cybersecurity awareness and results-driven digital marketing together, making professional online growth solutions more accessible to businesses across Ontario.
- What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
The idea for Boost Local Business came from seeing how many hardworking local contractors and small business owners struggled to build a strong online presence. Many delivered excellent services but lacked the time, technical expertise or reliable support needed to be easily found online and consistently generate qualified leads. With more than 25 years of combined experience in IT, cybersecurity and digital marketing, we recognized an opportunity to bridge this gap. We understand the determination and resilience required to build something from the ground up and this inspired us to use our expertise to support the local businesses that strengthen communities across Ontario. Boost Local Business was created with a clear purpose: to help local contractors and small-to-medium-sized businesses improve their online visibility, build credibility, attract qualified customers and achieve sustainable growth through website design, SEO, paid advertising, social media marketing and cybersecurity-focused digital solutions.
- What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
My advice to budding entrepreneurs is to begin by solving a genuine problem and understanding what their customers truly need. Focus on building trust by being honest, delivering what you promise and consistently providing quality service, as a strong reputation and positive customer relationships create the foundation for long-term growth. Finally, remain adaptable and committed to continuous learning. Markets and technology are constantly evolving, so use data to guide your decisions, improve your skills and view every challenge as an opportunity to learn, innovate and grow.
- What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
The top three skills needed to become a successful entrepreneur are resilience, adaptability and effective communication. Resilience helps you stay focused and move forward when facing uncertainty or setbacks. Adaptability enables you to respond to changing customer needs, technology and market conditions. Effective communication is essential for clearly presenting your vision, understanding customers, building a strong team and developing lasting professional relationships. Together, these skills help entrepreneurs make confident decisions, earn trust and achieve sustainable business growth.
- How many hours do you work a day on average?
On average, we work approximately eight to ten hours a day. Running a business requires flexibility, so some days may be longer depending on client projects, strategy development and deadlines. However, we believe productivity, consistency and delivering quality results are more important than simply counting the number of hours worked.
- To what do you most attribute your success?
We attribute our success to continuous learning, resilience and a genuine commitment to helping our clients grow. Our 25+ years of combined experience in IT, cybersecurity and digital marketing provide a strong foundation, but listening carefully to our clients and delivering practical, results-driven solutions have been equally important. By staying adaptable, acting with integrity and treating every client’s business as if it were our own, we have built lasting relationships and earned the trust of the local business community.
- How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
We market our business through a combination of local SEO, content marketing, Google Ads, social media, community engagement and client referrals. Our most successful form of marketing has been referrals and word-of-mouth, supported by a strong online presence. When clients see measurable results and have a positive experience, they naturally recommend our services to others. This combination of trusted recommendations and digital visibility has helped us build credibility and develop lasting relationships with businesses across Ontario.
- Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
The business was self-funded through personal savings and income from our professional careers. We did not approach outside investors or raise venture capital. Instead, we started with a controlled budget, purchased only the essential software and equipment, and used our existing IT, cybersecurity and digital marketing experience to keep initial costs manageable. As client revenue increased, we reinvested it into better tools, training and marketing. This approach resulted in slower growth, but it allowed us to retain ownership and avoid taking on unnecessary debt.
- What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Long-term success comes from managing the business responsibly, keeping customers satisfied and adapting when the market changes. It means controlling costs, maintaining healthy cash flow, measuring which services are actually profitable and avoiding growth that the business cannot support. It also requires listening to clients, correcting mistakes quickly and continuing to improve your skills. In our experience, steady progress and repeat business are more valuable than short-term attention or rapid expansion without a strong foundation.
- Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
In the next five to ten years, we want Boost Local Business to grow from a founder-led agency into a well-established company with a skilled in-house team. We plan to expand beyond Alliston and serve more businesses across Ontario and other parts of Canada, while maintaining the personalized service that shaped the company. We also expect cybersecurity, AI search optimization and marketing automation to become a larger part of our work. Our goal is not simply to become a bigger agency, but to build a financially stable business with long-term clients, reliable systems and a reputation for honest advice and measurable results.
- Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
We admire Shopify because it solved a practical problem for small businesses: making online selling easier without requiring extensive technical knowledge. What stands out to us is its ability to turn complex technology into tools that ordinary business owners can use. This is relevant to our work because many of our clients are skilled at what they do but need support with the technical side of growing online. Shopify’s focus on simplifying technology for entrepreneurs is something we genuinely respect and try to reflect in our own services.
Recommended Questions –
- How important have good employees been to your success?
Good employees have been extremely important to our success. You can have a great business idea and a solid plan, but you still need people who genuinely care about the work and the customers. For me, it’s less about finding people who never make mistakes and more about finding people who take ownership, communicate well, and are willing to learn. When you have the right people around you, you don’t have to manage every small detail yourself. That trust allows you to focus on growing the business while knowing that your customers are still being looked after properly.
- How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
I stick with an idea as long as I see potential in it. If it’s not working, I’ll usually change the approach before giving up. But if the results consistently show it’s not going anywhere, I’m comfortable moving on.
- What motivates you?
I’m motivated by progress seeing an idea turn into something that actually works and creates value. I also enjoy solving problems, learning along the way, and seeing the impact of the work we do.
- What are your ideals?
I believe in doing good work, treating people fairly, and being accountable for the decisions I make. I value honesty, consistency, and building something that creates real value rather than just chasing short-term results.
- How do you generate new ideas?
Most of my ideas come from paying attention to everyday problems things customers struggle with, gaps in the market, or processes that could simply work better. I also like looking at what others are doing, not to copy them, but to understand what can be improved or approached differently. Some of the best ideas come from regular conversations and asking, “Is there a better way to do this?”
- How do you define success?
I don’t define success only by revenue or how big the business becomes. For me, it’s having a business that is financially healthy, customers genuinely value, and that I still enjoy building. It also means having enough control over my time to be present for the things outside of work that matter to me.
- How do you build a successful customer base?
I think a strong customer base is built by doing good work and giving people a reason to come back or recommend you. We focus on understanding what the customer actually needs rather than trying to sell them everything we offer. Over time, good service, honest communication, referrals, and staying connected with existing customers have helped us grow naturally.
- What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
My favourite part is the freedom to build something in my own way. I enjoy making decisions, trying new ideas, and seeing the direct impact of those decisions. There’s also something very satisfying about solving a real problem for a customer and knowing that the business is growing because of the value we created.
- What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
One of the most satisfying moments is when a customer comes back or refers someone to us. It may not sound like a big milestone, but to me, it means we did something right and earned their trust. Seeing the business grow through those relationships has been more rewarding than any single sale.
- What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
I think the biggest difference is the level of ownership. When you’re an entrepreneur, there isn’t always someone else to make the final decision or solve the problem. You’re responsible for the good outcomes and the bad ones. Working for someone else can offer more structure and predictability, while entrepreneurship often means creating that structure yourself and being comfortable with uncertainty.
- What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?
We keep our culture open, collaborative, and practical. People are encouraged to share ideas, ask questions, and take ownership of their work. We built it this way because we believe people do their best work when they feel trusted and respected.
- In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
Unpredictable.
