Questions: Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.
Answer: Enhanced Beauty & Wellness is a full service medical spa in Estrella Mountain Ranch – a small community in Goodyear, AZ. We are a small business with only one location. Our goal is to make our community feel it’s best through the optimization of health , hormones and aesthetics. We provide genuine care, believe in continued education and develop personalized treatment plans to ensure that you receive the safest and most efficacious care.

Questions: Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).
Answer: My name is Amber Hough and I have been a Family Nurse Practitioner for seven years – with a background in plastics and hand surgery prior to opening my medspa in August of 2023. I have a master’s degree in Nursing, am a Registered First Assist in the operating room and worked in Emergency nursing as an RN. All of which has allowed me to transform people’s lives through reconstructive trauma surgery. Since obtaining my initial aesthetic training in 2020, I have spent a great deal of time committed to advanced training in aesthetics.

Questions: What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
Answer: When I was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition (multiple sclerosis) in 2020, it motivated me to switch gears. I realized we have a great need for places where individuals can invest in promoting their own wellness by being proactive. I wanted to try to help people AVOID disease and feel their best.

Questions: What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Answer: Don’t give up. When you’re in the beginning stages it may seem overwhelming. You might cry, you might scream and you might feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. But one day, you’re going to wake up and say “look how far I made it.” Fake it til you make it.

Questions: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Answer: I think the top three traits needed in a successful entrepreneur are commitment, courage, and not being afraid to fail. Skills can be taught but these three traits are necessary to succeed.

Questions: How many hours do you work a day on average?
Answer: I try to limit my work days to 8 hours to maintain a good work-life balance. This is hard especially in the beginning, when you have so many things you need to get done yesterday.

Questions: To what do you most attribute your success?
Answer: My support team! I have an amazing husband and family that have provided me with all the support needed to be successful. No one can do it alone.

Questions: How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
Answer: Setting up a Google Business profile is important & word of mouth is important. We have a thank you program for word of mouth referrals. We also have done well getting involved in community events, such as local firefighter pickleball tournaments and local booster clubs.

Questions: Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
Answer: My husband luckily had enough capital to get it started without any investors. He is a successful entrepreneur in the security industry. Also, my family provided me interest free loan support. Lastly, I continued to work part time for my plastic surgeons office to cover payroll until we established enough clientele for me to quit and go full time at the med spa.

Questions: What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Answer: Never stop growing. If you ever think you know it all, you’re wrong. Every day try to be better and always be learning. The more you know the less you have to rely on others.

Questions: Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
Answer: I hope to have a successful business I can sell in about 7 years. When our kids are out of high school we hope to move to Costa Rica and enjoy a peaceful simple life.

Questions: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Answer: admire any company that gives back to the community, gives back to their employees and respects the planet.

Questions: How important have good employees been to your success?
Answer: Employees are essential to success. When you’re not there, you need to trust in your employees to represent your company. Invest in your employees so they invest in your business.

Questions: How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
Answer: Until there’s enough valid data to tell me it’s not a good idea!! Unless you’re losing a lot of money, keep trying until you succeed. All new things were developed by someone with a weird idea and the courage to not give up.

Questions: What motivates you?
Answer: Making people feel better. I love going to work every day knowing that I am going to make someone else’s day better.

Questions: What are your ideals?
Answer: My ideals are surrounded by safe and efficacious care. I believe that all providers are responsible for ensuring that they do no harm & therefore it is our duty to ensure we are constantly learning the latest standards of care.

Questions: How do you generate new ideas?
Answer: Always learning, reading and researching. Things can be taken from one industry and applied in another. Just exposing yourself to as many different things as possible will always keep your mind moving.

Questions: How do you define success?
Answer: I view success as being able to take care of yourself, your family, your employees and your friends. Success is never settling and always striving for better.

Questions: How do you build a successful customer base?
Answer: Client retention is key. Ensuring clients rebook before leaving your front door is the most important tool for repeat customers. Identify your target market, identify what they like, and date your customer!

Questions: What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
Answer: Being able to help others. When you own your own business you get to decide what you do, how you spend your money and what things you want to focus on. Being able to not have restrictions on your dreams is the greatest aspect of being an entrepreneur.

Questions: What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
Answer: So far, celebrating my one year anniversary in business this month!!

Questions: What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
Answer: Some people are good at doing what they’re told and others are good at telling others what to do. I think confidence in what you know and what you’re capable of is the defining difference between the two.

Questions: What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?
Answer: Our culture is focused on collaboration & community. We look down on competition and we always try to live by the rule of “if you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”

Questions: In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
Answer: WILD!!!

Questions: What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
Answer: My greatest fear is failure. I manage fear by not letting it be an option. As long as you’re trying, you’re not failing and you’re only fear should be of not trying your best.

Questions: How did you decide on the location for your business?
Answer: This community is really lacking services. About 10 miles from the freeway, there are not a lot of businesses in this direct community. We’re building our home only 2 miles from our business and we wanted to serve our local community.

Questions: How can you prevent mistakes or do damage control?
Answer: Always research before making any big decisions or before deciding to spend money on non-essential items. Sales reps are really good at making their stuff sound the best and I’ve wasted a lot of money on things I thought would help me. I now ask for references of customers using products etc before signing up fo new things.

Questions: What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?
Answer: Going to the lake, golfing, crocheting, camping, scuba diving and reading.
