josh-ludinQ. Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Ans. Kit Media is one of Southern California’s top web design and digital marketing firms.  Our team creative approach ensures that client’s websites stick out from the competition, and convert at high levels.  Our team’s experience ensure that client’s will see success, and can track their digital marketing investment through robust reporting.

Q. Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

Ans. I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Finance.  Throughout and post college, I started and ran multiple successful eCommerce businesses.  Companies started asking me to help them market and sell their products online, and Kit Media began.  I hired talented designers and built great partnerships to build one of the most comprehensive marketing opportunity for small and medium businesses.

Q. What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

Ans. Running my own eCommerce businesses, I worked with dozens of developers and marketers over the years.  My experiences, overall, were sub-par at best, and completely disappointed and wasteful at worst.  I wanted to start a business that provided quality service and an analytical and systematic approach.

Q. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Ans. My experience starting businesses are with small, bootstrapped business.  I don’t have experience in the funding space, so my advice is to always minimize overhead and first to alleviate upfront stress and risk associated with starting a business.  Failure is a very realistic option, but if you’re able to stay afloat with minimal sales initially, you can develop your business and build over time.

Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ans. Dealing with stress in a healthy manner is key.  No matter what, you’re going to be in situations where you hate your business, hate your clients, and want to just quit.  I find people that are better at dealing with certain situations, and delegate tasks that would drive me crazy.  Stress from irritation with clients and employees can easily drive you nuts if you don’t manage properly.

Q. How many hours do you work a day on average?

Ans. Right now, I’m averaging 60 hour work weeks, but I’d really like to get that down to 40 over the summer.

Q. To what do you most attribute your success?

Ans. The quality of our work.  Our clients come back to us again and again for projects, and refer business our way frequently.

Q. How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Ans. We market out business in the same fashion that we market our clients’ businesses.  We build sales pipelines through digital market strategies that keep our sales funnel full.

Q. Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?

Ans. We are a bootstrapped business.  We started with minimal capital, and continue to keep overhead minimal, allowing us to offer the most affordable rates to our clients.

Q. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Ans. Adjust your solution suite to tailor opportunities that enter the market.  Social marketing is a big part of our practice, and new social platforms come out every 6 months.  We need to adapt to help our clients stay on top of the ball.

Q. Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Ans. I would like our business to be a small firm with a robust success portfolio, managing right around 100 clients’ SEO and digital marketing campaigns.

Q. Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Ans. Gallagher Staging (http://gallagherstaging.com) is one our clients that has thrived over the last 5 years.  Their growth and aggressiveness to tackle their market has really impressed me time and time again.
