Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Horizon Exteriors is a full-service exterior remodeling company specializing in roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters, soffit, fascia, and exterior restoration services. We are based in Central Wisconsin and proudly serve communities including Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Wausau, Marshfield, and Plover, while also serving the Greater Milwaukee area with operations in Glendale, Waukesha, West Allis, Brookfield, Shorewood, and Mequon. Our company focuses on delivering high-quality craftsmanship, dependable service, and a customer-first experience to help homeowners protect and enhance their properties.

Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and began my professional career with a strong interest in real estate, property improvement, and entrepreneurship. Through working closely with homeowners and investment properties, I developed a passion for helping people protect and improve their homes, which ultimately led me to founding and growing Horizon Exteriors. Over the years, I have focused on building a company known for quality workmanship, strong customer relationships, and dependable service. One of my proudest achievements has been successfully expanding Horizon Exteriors to serve multiple regions across Wisconsin while creating local jobs and building long-term relationships within the communities we serve.

What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

I was inspired to start Horizon Exteriors through my background in real estate and seeing how important quality exterior work is to protecting a home’s value. I noticed many homeowners struggled to find contractors who combined strong workmanship with reliable communication and service. That motivated me to build a company focused on delivering high-quality results while creating a better, more trustworthy experience for homeowners throughout Wisconsin.

What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

First, focus on building trust and strong relationships with your customers and team, because reputation and referrals are often the foundation of long-term success. Second, stay consistent and be willing to outwork challenges, as growth rarely happens overnight and persistence is key. Third, always be open to learning and adapting, whether it’s improving your processes, embracing new technology, or listening to customer feedback, because the most successful businesses continue to evolve.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ambition is essential for any successful entrepreneur because it fuels growth, goal setting, and the determination to overcome obstacles. Resilience is equally important, as entrepreneurship often comes with setbacks, and the ability to stay focused and keep moving forward is what separates long-term success from short-term effort. Vision is also important, as successful entrepreneurs must be able to see long-term opportunities, set a clear direction for their business, and stay focused on where they want to grow in the future.

How many hours do you work a day on average?

On average, I work about 10 to 12 hours a day, although that can vary depending on project demands and seasonal workload. As a business owner, my schedule often includes a mix of managing operations, meeting with customers, supporting my team, and planning for future growth. While the hours can be long, I enjoy being involved in building and improving the business each day.

To what do you most attribute your success?

I attribute my success to staying focused on long-term goals and putting in consistent effort every day.

How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Our most successful form of marketing has consistently been word-of-mouth referrals and repeat customers, which we believe reflects the quality of our work and the trust we build with homeowners.

What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

The best way to achieve long-term success is to stay consistent, remain adaptable, and focus on delivering real value. Businesses that commit to continuous improvement, build trust through reliable performance, and stay focused on their long-term vision are better positioned to grow and withstand challenges over time.

Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

In the next 5 to 10 years, I plan to continue building Horizon Exteriors into a well-established and highly respected exterior remodeling company known for quality workmanship and customer service. I hope to expand our team, strengthen our presence in the markets we serve, and continue creating opportunities for growth while maintaining the strong values and standards the company was built on.

Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

One business I really admire is Adam from The Roof Strategist on YouTube. His content focuses on helping roofing contractors improve their sales processes, customer communication, and overall business operations. His educational videos and training resources have provided valuable insight that has helped me grow as a roofing business owner, and I respect how he built a highly recognized brand by consistently providing real value and education to others in the industry. One business I really admire is Adam from The Roof Strategist on YouTube. Good employees have been extremely important to the success of our business. A strong and reliable team allows us to maintain high-quality workmanship, provide great customer service, and continue growing.

What motivates you?

My biggest motivation is my family, especially my wife, son, and daughter. They inspire me to work hard, continue growing, and build something that creates stability and opportunity for our future.

How do you define success?

I define success as building something meaningful that provides value to others while creating stability and opportunity for my family and team. I also believe success is being happy and fulfilled with the work you do and the life you are able to create.

How do you build a successful customer base?

Building a successful customer base comes from providing quality work, being dependable, and creating a positive customer experience from start to finish. When customers feel confident in your service and trust the results, it naturally leads to referrals, repeat business, and long-term relationships that help grow the business.

What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

My favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur is the ability to create something from the ground up and watch it grow over time. I enjoy setting goals, and having the opportunity to shape the direction and future of the business while making a positive impact on the people we serve.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

One of my most satisfying moments in business has been seeing the company grow from an idea into a trusted name serving multiple communities. Watching our team expand, completing projects we’re proud of, and earning repeat customers and referrals has been incredibly rewarding. It’s fulfilling to see the hard work translate into real impact for both our customers and our employees.

What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

I believe one of the major differences is that entrepreneurs often take on greater levels of risk and responsibility while focusing on long-term growth and vision.

In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.

Ambition

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Becoming an entrepreneur has allowed me to give my kids the best life possible and take them to cool places. Also, being away from my family during work makes me appreciate the time I do get with them a whole lot more.

What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

My greatest fear is failure, especially when it comes to letting down my family, team, or customers. I manage that fear by using it as motivation to stay prepared, work hard, and keep improving. Instead of avoiding challenges, I focus on learning from mistakes, staying disciplined, and taking consistent steps forward.

Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

Yes — I believe there’s definitely a pattern.

It’s consistency, resilience, and long-term thinking. The most successful entrepreneurs show up every day, put in the hard work, stay adaptable when challenges come up, and keep improving. There’s no shortcut — just steady discipline and a commitment to getting better over time.

If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

If I could talk to one person from history, it would be the CEO of a huge company like Walt Disney.

He built an entirely new kind of company by blending creativity with disciplined execution. I’d want to understand how he stayed committed to a long-term vision, especially after major setbacks, and how he balanced innovation with building systems that could scale.

What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

Some of my favorite things to do are snowboarding in the winter, traveling, and spending time with my family.
