What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
After over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, I saw a growing need for specialized, high-quality solutions—particularly in the garage, commercial, and industrial flooring space. Over the years, I witnessed firsthand how customer expectations evolved and how demand increased for floors that are not only functional and durable, but also visually appealing and easy to maintain. That insight inspired me to expand into what is now Innovative Garage Flooring. I realized there was a significant opportunity to fill the gap with premium epoxy and polyaspartic flooring systems, backed by expert craftsmanship and personal service. This business was born out of a passion for doing things right and delivering a product that truly stands up to the wear and tear of real life.
- What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
1. Master Your Craft Before Scaling Take the time to truly understand your industry and hone your skills. Real succss comes from delivering consistent quality, and that starts with knowing your trade inside and out. Before you expand, make sure your foundation is solid.2. Listen to the Market, Not Just Your Passion Passion is important, but paying attention to what your customers actually need is critical. I started this business after recognizing a growing demand that wasn’t being met. Always stay alert to market shifts and be ready to adapt your services accordingly.Long-term success is built on trust. Whether it’s customers, suppliers, or employees—treat people with respect, communicate clearly, and follow through on your promises. Word of mouth and reputation are your most powerful marketing tools.3. Build Relationships, Not Just Sales Long-term success is built on trust. Whether it’s customers, suppliers, or employees—treat people with respect, communicate clearly, and follow through on your promises. Word of mouth and reputation are your most powerful marketing tools. - How many hours do you work a day on average?
On average, I work around 10 to 12 hours a day. Running a business—especially in a hands-on industry like flooring—requires wearing many hats. Between job site visits, managing teams, meeting with clients, handling estimates, and overseeing operations, the days are full. That said, when you’re passionate about what you do and committed to growing your business, the long hours feel worthwhile. It’s part of what it takes to build something that lasts. - To what do you most attribute your success?
My team is by far the number one reason for our success. - How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
We put a strong emphasis on marketing through referrals. Followed closely by a mixture of adwords and SEO of our website. These two areas have been the most successful. When it comes to branding, we will then use sources like TV, radio and billboards. - Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
Our initial funding came from personal savings and reinvesting profits from years of work in the industry. As the business grew and demand increased, investment firms actually began seeking us out after seeing our track record, quality work, and strong growth potential. We didn’t actively look for investors—they recognized the value in what we were building and wanted to be part of it. - What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
The best way to achieve long-term success is through consistency, quality, and trust. Always deliver on your promises, focus on doing excellent work every time, and build strong relationships with your customers, team and suppliers. Stay adaptable, keep learning, and never lose sight of why you started. When you take care of the details and the people, long-term success follows. - Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
In 5 to 10 years, I see Innovative Garage Flooring expanding into multiple cities, becoming a recognized leader in high-quality epoxy and polyaspartic flooring across the region. I envision a strong terelationshipsam managing day-to-day operations, allowing me to focus more on strategic growth, training, and new service offerings. The goal is to build a brand known for craftsmanship, reliability, and exceptional customer service—one that continues to grow without sacrificing quality. - Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
I really admire Berkshire Hathaway for their long-term, disciplined approach to investing and business management. They focus on building strong, sustainable companies rather than chasing quick wins. Their leadership under Warren Buffett emphasizes integrity, patience, and value—principles that resonate deeply with how I run my own business. It’s a great example of steady growth through smart decisions and solid fundamentals.
- How important have good employees been to your success?
Good employees have been absolutely crucial to our success. A skilled, dedicated team ensures every project meets our high standards and helps build the strong reputation we have today. Without their hard work, expertise, and commitment to quality, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the level of service our customers expect and trust. Great employees are truly the backbone of the business. - How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
I believe in giving ideas a fair chance but also knowing when to pivot. Usually, I stick with an idea long enough to thoroughly test it in real-world conditions—sometimes months or even years—while measuring results and listening to feedback. But if it’s clear the idea isn’t delivering value or fitting the market, I’m not afraid to adjust course quickly. Persistence matters, but so does flexibility. - What motivates you?
What motivates me most is the challenge and satisfaction of building something from the ground up—taking an idea, putting in the hard work, and watching it grow into a successful business. There’s something incredibly rewarding about creating value, solving problems, and knowing that every bit of progress comes from your own effort and vision. That drive to build, improve, and leave a lasting impact keeps me going every day. - What are your ideals?
My ideals center around integrity, quality, and continuous improvement. I believe in doing business honestly and treating people with respect. Delivering top-notch craftsmanship and reliable service is a must—I never compromise on quality. I’m also committed to learning and adapting, always looking for ways to do things better. These principles guide every decision and help build lasting trust with customers and team members alike.
