by | May 16, 2024 | Medical Spa

Questions: Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Answer: AIYANA aesthetics was established in 2020, with our first location in Molalla, OR. We opened

our second location in Salem, OR in 2022. We are a medispa and wellness clinic, offering treatments and services like Botox, filler, weight loss, BHRT, vitamin injections and skincare. We strive to boost our patients confidence, empower and provide a sense of belonging. We believe everyone deserves love and self-care.

Questions: Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

Answer: I am Rebecca Kelly, Board-certified Nurse Practitioner and owner of AIYNA aesthetics. I have been a Nurse Practitioner for over 9 years and nurse injector for over 6 years. I am an Oregon native, born and raised in Hood River. I obtained her Master’s degree in Nursing from East Carolina University while working as an RN in Labor and Delivery for 2 years. I have worked in a medispa in Salem, OR before branching out on my own to start AIYANA aesthetics. My passion is helping clients embrace their natural beauty, find their glowing skin within and feel amazing on the inside, too. When I’m not assisting patients reach their skin care goals, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children. We enjoy outdoor activities, exploring the Pacific Northwest, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking. I am passionate about health and nutrition and staying active. I am also active in my community and church, teaching Sunday school and ministering to other women in the church.

Questions: What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

Answer: After working in healthcare for over 20 years, I realized I wanted to make an impact on the lives of my patients in a positive way. I wanted to bring back the passion I used to have in medicine when I was able to really improve my patients lives and help them re-discover their confidence. After the pandemic in 2020, I knew that was my time to break free from the healthcare system and branch out with a cash-based practice that would optimize my patients lives from the inside out. I started AIYANA aesthetics in November of 2020 and have never looked back.

1. Know your vision. Keeping your vision at the forefront of all you do. It is your why and that is what will keep you pushing on the days that get hard.

2. Simplify. Keep it simple. You don’t need to overcomplicate things. Usually the simplest things work the best.

3. Build a team. Your team is what will get you through. Making sure you surround yourself with a team that shares your mission and vision and is willing to go out and achieve it right alongside you.

Questions: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Answer: 1. Persistence. “You can’t fail if you don’t quit.” You have to be willing to keep pushing forward even when times are tough and may seem impossible. Keep going.2. Determination. Be determined no matter what. You have to have thick skin and a willingness to take Nos and keep going. It is what will keep you pushing.

3. Let go. You have to build a team that will be there to support you and help you and the only way to do that is to let go of some tasks so you can work on the more important tasks that will move the needle. Delegate and let it go.

Questions: How many hours do you work a day on average?

Answer: I work Monday through Friday, about 8-10 hour days. I do not work on the weekends and have always made that a strong rule for myself. My workdays are filled with clinic time as well as admin time.

Questions: To what do you most attribute your success?

Answer: I think my success has been attributed to my willingness to keep pushing forward, my determination, my vision and my amazing team. It is a team effort to keep our business going and I know that without them we would not be the success we are today.

Questions: How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Answer: We like to diversify our marketing efforts. We utilize social media, google/SEO, referral programs and mailers. Once we realized that diversifying our marketing efforts to really capture our ideal client, we noticed more success. Never put all your marketing efforts into one outlet.  Our most successful marketing efforts has been social media paid ads, however, we notice a lot of patients from our other marketing efforts as well.

Questions: Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it?

Answer: We did not receive any outside funding, my husband and I bootstrapped our business. We loaned the business a starting amount and went from there. We started small and simple.

Questions: How did you obtain investors for your venture?

Answer: Our only investor was ourselves.

Questions: What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Answer: Long term success comes from short-term gains over and over again. Owning and operating a business has been the most difficult thing I have ever done, even more than obtaining my masters degree in nursing, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. I feel that I can relate it to raising a child. You have to nurture it and love on it a lot during its infancy and then continue to grow with it as it grows. The best way to achieve that long-term success is to grow alongside your business. Your business will only grow as fast as you are capable.

Questions: Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Answer: In 5-10 years, our business will continue to be growing and thriving. I see myself more removed from the day to day, clinical aspect, and more evolved as the CEO. Since we have 2 locations, we will be growing those individually over the years and serving more of our amazing patients. Our goal is to optimize as many lives as possible from the inside out!

Questions: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Answer: I am always looking at other business and models and seeing how they are able to thrive in their industry. I find it fascinating when individuals can come up with a plan and execute it while helping and serving others along the way. I’ve come to admire family owned business and how they are able to impact generations and generations with their legacy. I admire how fast food restaurants can employ mostly teenagers who are able to work a system that is replicated and successful over and over again. I also admire the amazing startups that open their shop on main street and serve their local community.

Questions: How important have good employees been to your success?

Answer: Our team is everything. When you are able to build a strong team and have members who desire to help fulfill your mission and vision and they truly believe in it to their core, your business will succeed. Finding the right team members is key.

Questions: How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

Answer: I like the 90 day rule. Once we implement a new strategy and start investing money and effort into it, I like to give it 90 days before we scrap it. During those 90 days I like to do a lot of performance reviews, checking the ROI and really diving into the numbers.

Questions: What motivates you?

Answer: My mission and vision motivates me. My amazing patients who put all their trust in our business and services make a huge difference in me wanting to throw in the towel or keep going. My team is another motivator because their financial livelihood depends on AIYANA.

Questions: How do you generate new ideas?

Answer: I love looking at other business and seeing what they have implemented that has worked and see if I can make it work for us, too. So many business out there are a great example of success and some of the owners even write books about how they did it. I have ready more business/entrepreneur books than I can count and I am always looking for ways to make AIYANA better. I have implement many new ideas over the years and some have been a success and some a failure, but I never stop trying.
