An Interview With Eric Brown, Owner – Musicology School of Music LLC.

Q 1 – Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Ans – Musicology is North Alabamas largest private Music School. Our Madison campus has been open since 2006 and Our Huntsville Location opened in May 2017.

Q 2 – Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

Ans – Eric Brown has an Undergrad in sacred music from University of North Alabama and a Masters degree in Worship studies fro Liberty Theological Seminary. Eric is an accomplished musical playing in several band across the south east over the last 20 years.

Q 3 – What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)?

Ans – We had had a significant number of people try to come over to our Madison location but couldn’t handle the drive. So we decided to come to them.

Q 4 – What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Ans – Read everything you can, Be bold and patient with all of your decisions. If your not having fun get out.

Q 5 – What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ans – Thick Skin, Amazing Drive, seeing failure as a learning experience not a death sentence.

Q 6 – How many hours do you work a day on average?

Ans – 12

Q 7 – To what do you most attribute your success?

Ans – The insatiable desire to win at life.

Q 8 – How do you go about marketing your business?

Ans – FB , Direct Marking , referrals

Q 9 – Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it?

Ans – The first time credit cards, second one banks.

Q 10 – What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Ans – setting realistic goals.

Q 11 – Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Ans – Working on my second business in a different field.

Q 12 – Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Ans – Columbia Arts Academy Columbia SC.

Q 13 – How important have good employees been to your success?

Ans – Very.

Q 14 – How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

Ans – 12 months.

Q 15 – What motivates you?

Ans – Remembering all the times I have been fired.

Q 16 – What are your ideals?

Ans – Made my kids pup the mascot of the school.

Q 17 – How do you generate new ideas?

Ans – I’m constantly thinking about the business so its an ever going process.

Q 18 – How do you define success?

Ans – Not having to worry about the competition because they follow you.

Q 19 – How do you build a successful customer base?

Ans – Great Customer Service.

Q 20 – What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Ans – Not getting a pink slip.

Q 21 – What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Ans – When we hit 500 students which is something only 1% of music schools ever accomplish.

Q 22 – What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

Ans – You know you have the ability to make a mistake without losing everything.

Q 24 – What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?

Ans – Fun lots of Laughter, Comes from my personality and the ability to make others laugh.

Q 25 – In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.

Ans – Rollercoaster

Q 26 – If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Ans – Never would have detoured into the church field.

Q 27 – How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Ans – Lots of hours but I am to provide better

Q 28 – What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

Ans – Failure , learning to embrace it on a daily grind.

Q 29 – How did you decide on the location for your business?

Ans – Our first campus had attracted a lot of people from that area until they had to make the drive in rush hour traffic so we decided to bring our school to them.

Q 30 – Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

Ans – Drive

Q 31 – If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

Ans – Ray Charles the man transcended race and music at the same time.

Ans – Marty Fort

Q 34 – What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?

Ans – Quitting to soon

Ans – Patience

Ans – I playing a wedding band

Ans – Fender Rhodes Electric Pianos

Ans – Dinner with my family

Ans – The overall vibe of our school. When people come to our school they realize real quick we are serious about having a fun learning environment.
