Hi Steve, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
It might be a philosophical cliche, but every time you wake up each morning you have an opportunity to be productive. To move your life in a direction that helps you travel from point A to point B. If you take advantage of each day to stay on course, (even if it’s only a small task) You’ll not only make your life less stressful, it also can create momentum. Momentum is the secret sauce. You don’t want to lose this important ingredient.
Accomplishing goals won’t happen by accident. If you gain momentum and confidence, you’ll realize that you’re capable of accomplishing more. Your self esteem with also build and eventual you’ll be living a live that rewards you with success. However you want to measure it.
Once you’ve re-enforced productive behaviors, it’s easy to see how you’ll become more optimistic about life. Because you are in charge of your productivity and momentum, you’ll soon see that optimism builds with your accomplishments.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the classic story of someone who decided to reinvent myself after turning 50.. I was a successful chiropractor for over 20 years but I felt the need to explore other entrepreneurial avenues. I opened Inside Scoop Creamery in downtown Littleton in 2012. We started making our own ice cream from day one and I created over 100 flavors in my first 5 summers. Sometimes we need to experience new challenges in our lives. Opening the “Scoop” has allows me to stimulate my creative side. It’s been really fun!
Last summer I opened a new ice cream parlor in NW Denver. It’s called Rosie’s Ice Cream. I partnered with friends of mine that own Devil’s Cup Coffee and we combined our two business into one location on 44th and Yates. Stop down and check us out!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Follow through – You will develop a reputation for your ability to complete tasks. Always do your best to complete all jobs and tasks at a very high level. Over time, cream rises to the top and you will eventually separate yourself from those who don’t allows put their best efforts forward.
2) Team work – I can’t state enough how more enjoyable work is when you’re part of a team. Take pride in being the employee that steps in to help their fellow co-workers.
3) Leadership – Personal fulfillment happens when you’re making a difference in your work and personal life. Leaders step up and gain the respect of fellow employers, co-workers and friends.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Michael Gerber “The E-myth Revisited”. It teaches you to work on your business, not in your business. Many business owners struggle with delegating smaller duties to capable employees. When you’re able to train good employees to handle more responsibilities, you can free yourself up to do the things that only the owner/manager can do. This increases your overall effectiveness.
