Q 1.    Kindly give our readers an introduction to your business. Please include what your business is all about, in which city you are located and if you have offices in multiple locations/ cities.

Ans:    Tight Line offers our customers exterior renovations solutions to for their aging home.

Q 2.    Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

Ans:    Terry Taylor Bio:

Terry Taylor is the founder and President of Tight Line Exteriors a construction firm located in Marietta Georgia. He has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry previously holding the position as Director of Sales for USG Corporation.  He has lived in many parts of the country, moving from the west coast, to the mid-west to the south for various corporate carrier opportunities.  In 1997 he moved his young family to Marietta Georgia where he assumed the role of Director of sales for North American Industrial products.  In 2004 he began his entrepreneurial carrier investing in Tight Line.

Terry has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an MBA from Pepperdine University.  He has a passion for faith based mission work, and is active in his community and church.  He currently sits on the board for Roswell Rotary and Lunches for Learning.  He enjoys traveling the world, fly-fishing, golfing and spending time with his wife Amy of 30 years.  Together they have raised three children and consider them their greatest accomplishment in life.

Q 3.    What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

Ans:    After spending 17 years in the corporate environment providing solutions to contractors as my customers, I came to understand that there are many contractors who are successful despite their lack of understanding of how to provide creative solutions to home owner’s needs.  I have always had the entrepreneurial drive and in 2004, I decided to invest in my company with the understanding that there is a better way to serve the market through honest solution based selling and delivery of high quality building systems.

Q 4.    What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Ans:    Surround yourself with good people, be creative and dream.

Q 5.    What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ans:    Self-Motivated. Organized, Intelligent.

Q 6.    How many hours do you work a day on average?

Ans:    12

Q 7.    To what do you most attribute your success?

Ans:    Previous experience, surrounding myself with good people.  Persistence.

Q 8.    How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Ans:    We have been successful because we do a better job than most on identifying the customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations in fulfilling those needs.  Our most successful marketing is word of mouth from happy customers.  We utilize electronic media to market our company through the internet and personal selling.

Q 9.    Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?

Ans:    Our company is self-funded by the owner.

Q 10.    What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Ans:    Be consistent in what you do and have a clear understanding of what your mission is.

Q 11.    Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Ans:    In 5 years we will be four time what today’s revenue is, In 10 years we will be in multiple geographies.

Q 12.    Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Ans:    Nehemiah.  They are a great faith based company.

Q 13.    How important have good employees been to your success?

Ans:    The most important part of our success.

Q 14.    How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

Ans:    Until the idea has been exhausted.

Q 15.    What motivates you?

Ans:    Providing a great service and seeing others grow with the company.

Ans:    My values are trust integrity, honesty and servicing customer’s needs.

Ans:    Living life.

Ans:    Serving God.

Ans:    Controlling my own business destiny.

Ans:    Seeing other grow.

Q 21.    What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

Ans:    They enjoy signing the front of the check rather than the back.

Q 22.    What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?

Ans:    Our culture is based on delivering the 4 ‘C”s to our customers.
Communication during the construction process.
Providing a CLEAN job site.
Giving the customers a competitive Cost to their project.
A Commitment from everyone in the organization to do what is right for the customer.
