Q. What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
A. I worked for several construction companies and saw all the corners they cut and the amount of dishonesty that would evolve through every job, and heard the same complaint about every contractor. “They are unreliable”. I knew I could be different! I knew I could stand apart from the cliche of Most General Contractors! So I Worked hard, and made it happen and have been striving to stand out ever since!
Q. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
A. You need to be effective, efficient and You must be able to take others advice! Never stop learning!

A. I was able to start my business with $12k of my savings and the Lord provided from there!
Q. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
A. I wouldn’t know the answer to that, seeing how I’ve been in business less than 5 years, but I can assume it starts with Honesty and Integrity! Those will always lead to long term success!
Q. Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
A. I see myself expanding into SC. I really want to reach the coast line for more historic restorations.
Q. How important have good employees been to your success?
A. I would say it is one of the MOST important qualities to have in your company! I remember ever job I ever had before I owned my own business and I found that when employees are treated as lesser beings, then they tend to not care about the business they are working for. Give them a purpose, respect and well, good pay and they will love your company and return all the respect you give to them! They in turn will work harder and protect the integrity of Your company. All because you gave them the respect and pay they deserve.

A. I say 3 times a charm, or 3 strikes you’re out!
Q. What motivates you?
A. A sunny day, my employees and family who count on me and my Husband!
Q. How do you generate new ideas?
A. Listen! Ideas don’t have to always come from you! There are so many genius ideas out there that people are more than willing to share with you if you will make it happen for them!
Q. How do you define success?
A. Success for me personally, is finally being able to help others. For a long period in my life, I depended on others to help me get through my trials and tribulations of life, and now I have in turn been able to help others in their times of struggle. Success doesn’t always last, so make sure you give as much as you can while it lasts!
Q. How do you build a successful customer base?
A. Doing a good and solid job! Hard work will ALWAYS pay off! Customers refer us to those who mean the most to them because of the good work we put forward on their project! Never underestimate the power of word of mouth!
Q. What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
A. When customers become friends!
Q. In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
A. BLESSED
Q. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
A. I wouldn’t. I’m one of the lucky ones, who got to observe a while before I ripped the bandaid to do my own! So I had the opportunity to learn from others and apply different styles to my business that fit me better.
Q. How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
A. It has Blessed it. My family shows such pride when they tell people of the accomplishments that I’ve only been able to achieve because of the ground work they had already laid.
Q. What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
A. Well my greatest fear is sharks, but you don’t run into those much in construction. My fear is lack of control, and I manage that by realizing, we are never in control. But I know my Father in heaven is, and He has my back always! So fear tends to leave when I remember that!
Q. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?
A. Hard work, hard work, hard work! The Pattern is always the same. Consistent. You can have all the ideas in the world, but without elbow grease and persistence, they will never come to fruition.
Q. Who has been your greatest inspiration?
A. There are so many. My Grandfather, who never had more than a 6th grade education, yet he never stopped learning and working hard. He accomplished so much in his life and was respected and loved by all who met him. My Mother who has always encouraged me to know my own worth. My father who has worked more hours in his life than one person should work in 2 lifetimes, yet he always has a smile on his face and peace in his heart. My Partner Zack, Who has taught me that kindness and forgiveness are powerful tools of life and with them you can overcome anything.
Q. What book has inspired you the most? (OR what is your favorite book?)
A. I strive to live by the Blessed old Book. The Bible. It keeps me grounded, and it will never be out dated or irrelevant. It has relevance in every job I perform and it has taken this small town country girl, from learning how to serve customers by waitressing in a restaurant, to running my very own LARGE small business! The bible teaches me how to provide for those who work for me, and what to do with the Blessing that God provides for me. Our treasures are laid up in heaven, so anything here on Earth is His and to be used for His purpose, and He will bless you for doing so. The Bible teaches me how to handle my business when things are going great and when things are slow. Phil 4:12-13” I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Q. What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?
A. My biggest mistakes always come from over thinking or over analyzing! Men will say that’s just being a woman, but it comes from the right place. It comes from wanting to treat your customer the way you want to be treated, but I have learned that in construction, rarely does anything go to plan, but as long as you overcome every obstacle with humility and respect to those situations, you can always come out on top with your head held high!
Q. How can you prevent mistakes or do damage control?
A. Communication! There is no such thing as over Communicating! If everything is laid out clearly for your customers, it leaves very little room for eras to slip through!
Q. What are your hobbies?
A. What do you do in your non-work time? Non Work time? What is that? HAHA I love Zumba and Arial Fitness. I’m probably the most obsessed person with being near the ocean. Any chance I get, I am hoping in my car and driving the 3 hours to the beautiful Ocean at Cherry Grove, SC or Southport NC
Q. What makes you happy?
A. Providing for my family and others! I crave the “feel good” feeling that you get at Christmas when giving a gift to someone you love that needs it. The Bible says that God Loves a cheerful giver, and it does give me joy to be able to give what the Lord has given to me.
Q. What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
A. You sacrifice your time the most. Time is what it takes to keep yourself educated and on the cutting edge of your field. There is no 9-5 schedule when you are an Independent Business Owner, but if its what you love, the sacrifice comes easy.
