Q1 : Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).
Ans :
I like to think of myself as a mix between Mowgli from the Jungle Book and Beyonce. The irony in the odd differences blends together and speaks to the inner me. I see myself as a resourceful person who finds innovative and scientific ways to make things work. Sometimes we have to take it back to the basics and develop new ideas for old problems. At the same time, I’m very committed to my craft and the process of execution. Which is why I see myself as a mix between these two very different people. The unconventional boy who is connected to the natural world and the rigorous woman who is viewed to be one of the most committed performers of her time. I’m the type of entrepreneur who is more focused on bringing about progressive change rather than highlighting my own personal success. Whenever I am presented with a platform to speak, I choose to focus my message around how we can create resources and platforms that connects Eco-friendly innovations and opportunities to the people.

Q2 : What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
Ans :
My life was framed by the significant changes that affected my family from the disaster of Hurricane Katrina. It left my family and city unstable. The lack of resources and the effects of the hurricane opened my eyes to the need for change and the lack of mass education behind what was really happening to our planet. The weather is constantly changing, species are becoming extinct, and sea-levels are rising more rapidly than ever before. I knew I had to find different opportunities for people to create their own products and innovative ways to address the stress on our planet. These issues are something we have to face together, and not individually. Strength is stronger in numbers, and this work must be done in unity. Hence, my framework to provide people with opportunities to create co-friendly ways to address major issues that affect our planet that also caters to our daily needs- whether that is the resources we need to build these ideas, a space to meet, a way to provide for your family, a place to work, a place to learn, and an opportunity to create innovative products and services.

Q3 : What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Ans :
1. Focus on a B2b market and B2G.
2. Plan a company that requires you to build a powerful team
3. Research! Research! Research!

Q4 : What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Ans :
1. Active listening
2. Move in action
3. Consistency

Q5 : How many hours do you work a day on average?
Ans :
90 Hours- it literally feels that way, because I have to fold time on top of itself to extract more value. I am always working, my brain is always thinking, and it never stops.

Q6 : To what do you most attribute your success?
Ans :
I most attribute my success to the people who believe in me. I value their relationship and support and it has assisted me in staying focus when times get hard.

Q7 : How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
Ans :
Building relationships has been most successful in marketing my business. Through strategic partnerships and relationships I am able to reach more entrepreneurs in the community.

Q8 : Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
Ans :
The first 250k was raised from my previous venture, “Renew”, which is a charter school management organization. 2 million from a private investor. 1.4 million from government funding.

Q9 : Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
Ans :
I would like to see Ecotech expand nationwide and become a resource to more entrepreneurs who lack the education, the finances, and the access to the resources needed to build out a product that changes the way we live, work, and play. Ecotech will become a place of innovation.

Q10 : Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Ans :
