Answer: Nick Wingo, a former firefighter paramedic for 18 years shifted his career to wellness after a difficult career that involved a lot of tragic loss leading to his ultimate stay in a PTSD recovery facility for 35 days. After leaving the fire department Nick began to seek healing modalities to improve his PTSD. In that journey Nick started his entrepreneurial journey that included doing IVs to help others feel at their best. On Nicks journey he recognized that one of the most important parts in a wellness journey is to feel at your best and IV therapy does just that.
Questions: What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
Answer: I started my journey after leaving the fire department and not knowing what to do with my life. Starting a business has given me a whole new perspective on what I can achieve even after my rough career in the fire department.
Questions: What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Answer: Never quit. The path to success is the same path as failure. It’s just learning to keep getting back up. Self care is crucial. If you are not operating at your best how do you ever expect your business to be operating at its highest level? Dial in your why. When you are doubting your decision to open a business remember why you did it in the first place. If you have a dialed in why, nothing can stop you.
Questions: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Answer: Ability to pivot. Business is all about your ability to pivot. Things are not going to go your way all the time. That’s ok, just learn to pivot. Make decisions quick. It’s good to be educated on what you’re doing but learn to make a decision. Sitting on the fence will keep you right where you’re at. Understand that everything is happening for you. What you focus on grows. Learn to take everything that comes at you as an opportunity for growth. .
Questions: How many hours do you work a day on average?
Answer: I work on average 6 hours. I value my time with my family and my personal development. It is not always about how many hours you spend on your business, its how effective you are with those hours.
Questions: To what do you most attribute your success?
Answer: Resilience and Grit. If you want to be successful you are going to have to dig deep some days to work through whatever your day is throwing at you.
Questions: How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
Answer: Social media, google ads, events. Honestly the best form of marketing is getting out there and building relationships with people and your clients. The best marketing is gained when you get referral’s from people that know like and trust you. Nothing will ever beat that.
Questions: Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
Answer: I am self funded. The biggest asset in my business has been building my business credit. This has given me access to cash reserves under my business credit. Building credit for your business is easier than you think and give you the cash you need without giving up a percentage of your business.
Questions: What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Answer: Just keep going. Again the path to success is the same path to failure, its all about getting back up and never quitting.
Questions: Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
Answer: In 10 years I will have an employ owned company that is running itself so that I can move on to another business venture. Every successful entrepreneur has an exit plan.
Questions: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Answer: I have a heart for the small business owners as I am one as well. Anyone that is willing to put in the work to start a business is someone I admire. For me its not about the brand as much as it about the people. I will say I do really admire Patagonia as they have done a great job of building a brand that sells it self.
