The Basics:

Name: Gerry Goldfarb

When were you hired? June 2022

Current position title: General Manager at The Saint Paul Hotel

The Nitty Gritty:

Were you familiar with The Saint Paul Hotel before you started working there?

Yes. I always knew about the hotel, the history, the Grill, wondered what it was like to work there…

What drew you to working for The Saint Paul Hotel?

I got a phone call from a past co-worker asking me if I’d ever be interested in applying for the General Manager job at The Saint Paul Hotel. I said, “Ummm, yes please!”

What does hospitality mean to you?

Taking care of guests with excellent service and providing the utmost memorable experience.

Describe your role on a typical day.

I lead a great team of managers and team members. I check in on departments, say hello to team members, and if anyone needs anything. I am still finding my way around!

Describe a situation at The Saint Paul Hotel where you felt pride in yourself, your work or your team.

I just started, but the day I met my team I immediately felt pride. They are such a passionate, great group of people. I went home that day and felt proud of myself for finally getting a job that I dreamed of and worked so hard for.

How would you spend a day off in Saint Paul?

I just moved here! So I would go exploring and be a tourist!

What energizes you at work?

Striving to make change! Striving to make my team and my guests happy, and getting stuff done!

What is something that you were surprised to learn about The Saint Paul Hotel’s history?

It’s really fun to hear all the Presidents who have stayed here. And seeing the pictures of the hotel being built just amazes me.

What is your favorite Saint Paul Hotel event experience?

It’s still too soon to know!

Just for Fun:

What are your other interests (family, hobbies, school)?

Family and movies – together or separate, I love them both!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be like my brother – an accountant. But people kept telling me that I talked too much and couldn’t ever sit behind a desk like that. I took a hotel job to get into their accounting office, but then I fell in love with hotels/hospitality and never looked back.

What is your bucket list/dream vacation?

Honestly anywhere warm in the winter but recently Europe has intrigued me. Greece, France and Ireland…

What is your favorite food?

Pizza…always been my favorite. Even worked at a couple of Pizza restaurants early in my career.

What is one thing that you’re currently trying to make a habit?

NA, not sure

What is your favorite thing to do in Minnesota?

Travel to the North Shore of Lake Superior to Grand Marais, MN! Hike and explore!

What is the first concert you ever went to?

Hall & Oates!

What was your worst style choice?

I can’t think of one — my wife helps me! But she did say I was stuck in the 80’s a few times early in our marriage.

What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day?

Sit back, watch one of my favorite series on HBO or an action-packed movie like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars!

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Time goes by too quickly, so enjoy life! Age 50 seems so far away, but before you know it you are worrying about Age 70 and beyond. Live life!
