Q. What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?
A. Most business ideas stem from an untapped personal need and ours was no different. We realized that there was room in the pet industry for reliable, high-quality, and low-cost training-pad manufacturers and we decided to rise to the challenge.
Q. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
A.
1. Have a plan but be flexible enough to maneuver yourself and the business when things don’t go according to the plan.
2. Stay committed. For most businesses success takes some time to come about but if you believe in your vision then it will happen.
3. Keep your accounts in order. Funding will be a struggle no matter what, so you have to check on how you spend your money in order to sustain the business.
Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
A.
1. Resilience. Things are bound to get out of hand every once in a while, but you have to keep your head above the water.
2. Keep Learning. You can’t allow your business to grow stagnant, keep the ideas flowing and keep adapting.
3. Manage your people. You are the captain of the ship and it is your job to guide your crew. No two-ways about it.
Q. How many hours do you work a day on average?
A. As many hours as it takes to get the job done. I’m one of those lucky people who get to do what they believe in and I can’t allow complacency to take over.
Q. To what do you most attribute your success?
A. I would say it has a lot to do with persistence. You just can’t slack if you want to run a successful business. But it also has a great deal to do with the brilliant team that I was lucky enough to put together. And, as cliché as it may sound, it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family.
Q. How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
A. We try to avail all the platforms out there but word-of-mouth has proved to be the most effective of them all. Nothing really beats a recommendation from a satisfied client.
Q. Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
A. I have my family to thank for that who decided to pool in and make this dream a reality.
Q. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
A. Here at PetsWorld, we have carved out a long-term goal and then set out step-by-step monthly, quarterly, and yearly mini-goals to achieve them. What that does is that it keeps you from getting overwhelmed by the larger goals and allows you to focus on the more short-term achievable ones.
Q. Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
A. Hopefully by then we would have diversified our product base and opened up our business to a more global audience.
Q. Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
A. I admire all businesses that stick by their vision and don’t let setbacks put them down or demotivate them. It takes a lot of courage to pursue your goals when the odds are stacked against you and that is what is truly admirable.
