Interview with Dr. Warren Kaplan – Podiatrist in Fanwood

Ans: Kaplan Podiatry is a full service podiatrist office run by father and son, Warren and Adam Kaplan. Established in 1980, Kaplan Podiatry is located in Fanwood, New Jersey. Surgeries are performed at four surgical centers across Northern New Jersey, providing easy access for their growing patient base. Specialties include but are not limited to diabetic foot care, geriatric care, trauma and foot and ankle fractures.

Q. Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

Ans: Dr. Warren Kaplan and Dr. Adam Kaplan have a combined 40 years of experience in the podiatric field.  They are both graduates of The New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Warren completed his residency at The Doctors Hospital Worcester Massachusetts, while Adam completed his residency locally at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. He successfully completed 1150 surgical cases during this time.

Q. What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

Ans: Warren was always interested in the medical field. He completed his degree in pharmacy school before looking for a more hands on approach to medicine. Adam has followed in his father’s footsteps as he enjoyed shadowing his father in the office at a young age. The satisfaction of helping patients and helping them to better their lives inspires them to continue growing and modernizing their office.

Q. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Ans: It takes a lot of work but it is worth it in the end.
Be adaptable since the industry and technology is always changing.
Treat everyone with respect along the way to your success.

Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ans: Ambition, patience and always increasing your knowledge base.

Q. How many hours do you work a day on average?

Ans: 11 hours a day

Q. To what do you most attribute your success?

Ans: Education, family and work ethic.

Q. How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Ans: Word of mouth and referrals from patients are key to the success of our business. We engage with other doctors in the community and give presentations at retirement homes..

Q. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Ans: making a 100% effort every time you enter a paitents room. having the same absolute attention and concentration  a regular diabetic routine foot check up to a ankle fracture surgery repair. making sure every detail is performed to perfection.

Q. Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Ans: I see myself continuing what my father has started.

Q. How do you build a successful customer base?

Ans: by doing outreach in the communtiy and treating patient’s as if they are you own family members. Creating a long term personal relationship so they are comfortable with myself and the office staff.
