An Interview with the Chinese Traditional Medicine Expert Quli Zhou

Ans: Hard-worker, never give up and follow my dream and vision. Even if I don’t achieve it at one time, I will continue

I love nature and I love being in nature. Everything I do now I like it to be natural.

Creative person, create something non-existent

I have been a top student. I entered a prestigious university of Chinese traditional medicine. I obtained my Master degree in China when there is only a few graduate student a year.
After graduation, I was working as an attending doctor.

Travelling around, worked at Switzerland, Hawaii, Peninsalvina, and Bay Area. I enjoy to give at at every place to train local people about Oriental Medicine. I was named Outstanding Professor of the year at Hawaii.

Q. What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

Ans: Since 10 years old, I already started collected herbs, and my classmate called me Herbist Zhou. My parents and whole family suffer from health problems, Hepatitis. My brother’s lymphtitis was cured through Chinese traditional medicine and this experience inspired me to become a Chinese medicine doctor. Because I also want to help my parents and my family for their health wellbeing, but since I went to college, I have worked far away from them. I have chances helping many other people instead.

Q. What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Ans: Being Persistent

Have a vision and dream and see them all the time

Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Ans: Take in charge of mindset
Leadership
Inspire and motivate others

Q. How many hours do you work a day on average?

Ans: 60 years a week. When you enjoy what you do, time goes fast.

Ans: Never give up
Focus on the key element of the business
Keep learning and continuous learning and growing yourself

Q. How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Ans: I love to do face-to-face marketing and presentation. I use email marketing and advanced technologies. Partner with media.

I think face-to-face marketing has been most successful for me.

Q. Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?

Ans: I established my business by myself.

Q. What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

Ans: Vision, learning, and growing.

Q. Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

Ans: A business generates $3 million gross income a year.

Q. Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Ans: Starbucks

I visited Starbucks original coffee shop and HQ and I learned that they were building their business in a small store in 25 years, and then they grow and become the No. 1 coffee shop.
I like the culture and technology they have to grow their business.
I also like their business model, they manage and operate so many stores under one roof, instead of franchising.
They impact people’s daily life and enhance the experience as a human being. I like their logos and signage, as they are being identical and eye-catching. They created a customer experiences, yet relaxing, comfortable, and private. They created an environment for people to connect.

Q. How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

Ans: Major goals, I will never up. For some small goals, I can negotiation and make a compromise.

Ans: My vision and ideals

Ans: Build a successful business and platform to help as many people as possible.

Q. How do you generate new ideas?

Ans: Learning from my own experiences and get insights from other people and businesses.

Ans: Fulfillment and contentment with what you want to achieve.

Ans: A customer base in built by going out to meet people and market yourself.

Q. What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Ans: The spirit of daring and taking risk, and willingness to take on all kinds of challenges.

Q. What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Ans: Achieved goal and made things happen!!

Q. What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?

Ans: The biggest difference is risk taking. Most people who work for others do not want to take risks.

Q. What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?

Ans: Do your best. Help others, help youself. Be the best version of yourself.

Q. In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.

Ans: Fulfillment

Q. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

Ans: No, I would do the same. I will choose to be a natural healer and entrepreneur

Q. How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

Ans: I think I give them a better quality of life.

Q. What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

Ans: Not sure if things will work or not… Especially if I invested money…

Q. How did you decide on the location for your business?

Ans: Close to where I live.

Q. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

Ans: Yes, I do. The formula is vision, courage, persistency, and never give up.

Q. If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

Ans: Eisenhower. Because I read World War II and really admired how he was able to make a victory.

Ans: Veaner: Rockefeller’s habits

Q. What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made?

Ans: Give up too soon with people I hired. Not being patient waiting to be fruitful

Ans: Being patient and have faith with your decision and choice.

Q. What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

Ans: Hiking, Jogging and Photographing.

Ans: Give up my spare time and relaxing time, hobby time.
