Give us a brief description of yourself :
I’m the founder of Artemis Homes and Services, a woman-owned home improvement and renovation company based in Mooresville, North Carolina, serving the Lake Norman and Greater Charlotte area. My work focuses on helping homeowners and businesses transform their spaces through thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and reliable project management.
My background combines entrepreneurship, creative design, and hands-on experience in residential renovation and property improvement. I’ve always been passionate about turning underutilized or outdated spaces into environments that are both beautiful and functional. Through Artemis Homes and Services, I’ve been able to bring that passion to life by helping clients refresh their homes through painting, garden design, carpentry, tile work, and other improvement projects.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a business rooted in trust, communication, and attention to detail. Clients often tell us they appreciate our ability to clearly visualize possibilities in a space while keeping the entire process collaborative and stress-free. My goal has always been to create a company that homeowners can rely on for honest advice, skilled craftsmanship, and a truly personalized approach to improving their homes.
Prior to starting my business, I spent 13 years in the Aerospace Defense industry, where I developed expertise in Operations, Process Improvement, and Project Management. I took that skillset and spent my last 5 years in corporate as a Senior Director at Lowe’s Corporate, where I built out multiple Program/Project Management Office teams and led a team of Process Engineers focused on strategic initiatives delivering hundreds of millions in savings for the company.
OR the below option. Or a combo of both
I’m the founder and owner of Artemis Homes and Services. Before starting the company, I built my career in industries where precision, reliability, and operational excellence were essential, including aerospace defense and corporate operations at Lowe’s headquarters. Those experiences shaped my approach to project management, attention to detail, and delivering results that meet the highest standards.
I founded Artemis Homes and Services because I’ve always had a passion for craftsmanship, design, and creating spaces where people feel comfortable, inspired, and proud. My goal was to bring a more thoughtful and client-focused approach to home improvement, one centered on clear communication, transparent pricing, strong project execution, and respect for every client’s vision. Today, I’m proud to lead a company that helps homeowners and businesses across the Lake Norman community transform their spaces with quality work and a process that feels collaborative and enjoyable.
Question: How did the idea for your business come about?
Answer: The idea for Artemis Homes and Services came from a combination of my professional background and my personal passion for building and design. After years working in environments where precision and operational discipline were critical, I realized those same principles could greatly improve the experience people have with home and business improvement projects. Too often, as a homeowners I felt frustrated by unreliable contractors, poor communication, and inconsistent quality. I founded Artemis to create a company that does things differently; focusing on craftsmanship, transparency, and strong communication so that clients feel confident throughout the entire process. I also want women to feel at ease and safe when my team and I are in their homes.
Question: What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Answer:
- Focus on doing things the right way
Build your reputation around quality, integrity, and reliability. Long-term success comes from trust.
- Listen to your customers
The best improvements to your business often come directly from understanding what your clients truly need.
- Stay resilient
Entrepreneurship is full of challenges, but persistence and consistency make the difference between giving up and building something meaningful.
Question: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Answer:
- Communication.
Clear communication builds trust with clients and keeps projects running smoothly. - Attention to detail.
In industries like construction and renovation, details matter and directly impact quality. - Problem-solving.
Every project presents unexpected challenges, and successful entrepreneurs find creative solutions quickly.
Question: How many hours do you work a day on average?
Answer: As an entrepreneur, the schedule varies depending on the projects we’re working on. On average, I spend 8–10 hours a day managing projects, working with clients, and continuing to grow the business. That said, running a company often means thinking about the business well beyond traditional work hours, especially when you care deeply about the work you’re doing.
Question: To what do you most attribute your success?
Answer: I attribute much of my success to discipline, attention to detail, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
My background taught me the importance of precision, reliability, and strong operational systems. Bringing those principles into a service-based business allows us to deliver a consistently high level of craftsmanship and customer experience.
I also have a relentless pursuit for excellence in everything I do. I am constantly self-reflecting and finding ways to be better as a human, a better mom, and a better business owner. It’s why I named my business after the Greek Goddess Artemis. She was an incredible hunter. Hence, our motto “Hunting for Perfection ~ Delivering Excellence”
Question: How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?
Answer: Much of our growth has come from word-of-mouth referrals. When clients have a great experience, they naturally recommend us to their friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
I’ve also secured a ton of business by talking to people out in the community, at stores, and believe it or not, even at a stop light. Well, the stop light scenario can be attributed to one of my dogs (thanks Indie). That individual saw Indie in the passenger seat and told me she looked identical to her niece’s dog. We talked while the light was red, I did work for her the following week, and the rest is history. Gus, my other pup, has worked his magic too at local hardware stores. I met another client in Nordstrom Rack on the shoe aisle. We talked for a bit in early winter and fast forward a couple months later and I’m doing a garden design and install for her home. I’m a people person and I love connecting with people in our surrounding communities. Being out and about has worked well in my favor, not only winning business but making friends in the process.
We also focus on maintaining a strong online presence so homeowners searching for reliable renovation and improvement services in the Lake Norman area can easily find us.
Question: Where did your organization’s funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?
Answer: Artemis Homes and Services was initially self-funded. Starting the company independently allowed me to focus on building a strong foundation; developing systems, building relationships with clients, and delivering consistently high-quality work.
Question: What is the best way to achieve long-term success?
Answer: Long-term success comes from consistency and integrity. When you consistently deliver quality work, communicate clearly, and treat clients with respect, you build trust. Over time, that trust becomes the foundation for long-term relationships and sustainable business growth.
Question: Where do you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?
Answer: Over the next 5–10 years, I see Artemis Homes and Services continuing to grow into one of the most trusted home/business improvement companies in the Lake Norman and Greater Charlotte region. My goal is to expand our services, build an even stronger team of skilled professionals, and continue helping homeowners and businesses create spaces they love.
Question: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
Answer: I admire companies that are built on strong craftsmanship, integrity, and exceptional customer service. Businesses that prioritize quality, clear communication, and long-term relationships with their clients tend to stand the test of time, and those are the kinds of companies I respect most. If I had to list actual names: Zappos from a customer service perspective, Nvidia for innovation and taking risks, and my parents’ business b/c they came from nothing and built a successful service-based business that lasted over 35 years.
Question: How important have good employees been to your success?
Answer: Great people are essential to delivering great work. In the home improvement industry, the quality of the team directly impacts the final result and the client experience.
I place a strong emphasis on working with skilled professionals who take pride in their craftsmanship and share the same values of reliability, attention to detail, and respect for our clients’ homes. When everyone on a project is committed to high standards, it shows in the finished work.
Question: How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
Answer: I believe in giving ideas the time they need to be tested and refined. Not every idea works immediately, but sometimes the solution is adjusting the approach rather than abandoning the idea entirely. Entrepreneurship often requires patience and persistence, especially when building systems and processes that will support long-term growth. I’m stubborn as hell too and I’ll make sure I’ve exhausted all avenues before letting go of anything. I don’t want to have any regrets but will always embrace lessons learned.
Question: What motivates you?
Answer: What motivates me most is seeing the transformation of a space and the impact it has on the people who use it. When a homeowner or business owner walks into a freshly renovated room or sees their home updated in a way that truly reflects their vision, it’s incredibly rewarding. Helping clients feel proud of their homes and business and confident in the work we’ve done is a huge motivation for me. While I’m extremely self-motivated, my daughters also motivate me to be the best mom and human I can be. I want to be a shining example of how strong women can go out on their own and build a bad ass business that is successful on every level.
Question: What are your ideals?
Answer: My business is guided by a few core principles: integrity, craftsmanship, and communication. Clients should feel confident that the work being done in their home or business is high quality, fairly priced, and completed with care. Being transparent, honest, and dependable is the foundation of building lasting relationships with clients.
Question: How do you generate new ideas?
Answer: Many of the best ideas come from working directly with clients and understanding their needs. Every home or business and every project is different, so listening carefully to what clients want often leads to creative solutions. I also draw inspiration from design trends, architecture, and the natural environment around the Lake Norman area.
Question: How do you define success?
Answer: Success isn’t just about growth; it’s about building a business that people trust. If clients feel confident recommending Artemis Homes and Services to their friends and neighbors because they had a great experience, that’s success to me. On a personal level, success means happiness and being at peace, and seeing that in my daughters as well.
Question: How do you build a successful customer base?
Answer: Building a successful customer base starts with delivering excellent work and creating a positive experience for every client.
When clients feel heard, respected, and confident in the quality of the work, they naturally become long-term supporters of the business and refer others.
Question: What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?
Answer: My favorite part is the ability to create something meaningful and see the direct impact of that work. Entrepreneurship allows me to combine creativity, craftsmanship, and business strategy while helping clients transform their homes into spaces they truly enjoy. It’s also refreshing to be myself and not feel pressured into fitting into a square corporate box.
Question: What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
Answer: One of the most satisfying moments is when a client sees the finished result of a project and is genuinely excited about the transformation. Knowing that our work has improved someone’s home or business and their daily environment is incredibly rewarding. My client (and now friend) Mary comes to mind. She and her husband bought a fixer upper. I painted the outside, some of the inside, and did a full garden design and install with over 150 plants. After we completed the garden install, she came out and said, “Who’s f-ing house is this?! This looks amazing!” Haha. She couldn’t believe the transformation from a blank space to a garden oasis. I’ll never forget that response. Classic Mary. To know her is to love her.
Question: What kind of culture exists in your organization? How did you establish this tone and why did you institute this particular type of culture?
Answer: The culture at Artemis Homes and Services is centered around professionalism, craftsmanship, and respect. We believe in taking pride in our work, communicating clearly with clients, and treating every home as if it were our own. Creating a culture that values quality and integrity ensures that every project reflects the standards we stand for. I also want to have fun and laugh. I’ve been known to have a wicked sense of humor. If you can’t laugh while you’re working, then you’re at the wrong company. I want my client and my team to have fun, feel free, and enjoy every experience we create.
Question: In one word, characterize your life as an entrepreneur.
Answer: DRIVEN
Question: If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
Answer: I would probably start the entrepreneurial journey sooner. Building a business teaches you valuable lessons about leadership, resilience, and problem-solving that can’t be learned anywhere else. I would not have spent years getting higher level degrees and working 12-15 hours a day to climb the corporate ladder, supporting someone else’s dream and not my own.
Question: How did you decide on the location for your business?
Answer: I’m local to Mooresville and have firsthand experience with many of the contractors in this area. Starting Artemis Homes and Services was an opportunity to raise the bar on craftsmanship, communication, and the overall client experience. Plus, Mooresville and the Lake Norman region are growing communities with incredible homes and vibrant neighborhoods. It’s a great place to live and work, and there’s a strong demand for high-quality home improvement services. Being part of the local community allows us to build strong relationships with homeowners and businesses.
Question: Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?
Answer: There’s no single formula, but successful entrepreneurs tend to share a few traits: resilience, discipline, and a willingness to learn from both successes and failures. Consistency and integrity are also incredibly important. Businesses built on trust tend to last.
Question: Who has been your greatest inspiration?
Answer: I’m inspired by people who build businesses with integrity and a commitment to quality. Leaders who focus on long-term relationships and doing things the right way have always been the most influential to me. My daughters also inspire me to make the most out of every day and appreciate the joy around us.
Question: What book has inspired you the most? (OR what is your favorite book?)
Answer: One of the books that has influenced my thinking is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. It highlights how small, consistent improvements can lead to meaningful long-term results, which is a philosophy that applies both in business and in life. My favorite book of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. There’s a lot of life lessons and I absolutely adored the character, Scout. So much so, that my first daughter is named after her.
