    • AquaTech Software Inc., is a company that develops database software. The primary product being developed is SonicBase, an in-memory distributed relational database. AquaTech Software Inc., is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

  • Kindly give us a brief description about yourself (it should include your brief educational or entrepreneurial background and list some of your major achievements).

    • I have over twenty five years of software engineering experience. I have worked for WordPerfect, Novell and FamilySearch where I developed skills in performance and scalability. In previous employment I built a graph database and a search engine.

  • What inspired you to (start a new business venture) or (to make significant changes in an existing business)? How did the idea for your business come about?

    • I started this company because I wanted to make in-memory databases more accessible to the typical company that doesn’t have a lot of money for license fees. I wanted to bring together my years of database and performance experience into an offering that I could be proud of.

  • What three pieces of advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

    • Leverage your contacts.

    • Have a clear vision.

    • Do what you are most passionate about.

  • What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

    • Domain knowledge and experience.

    • Ability to share your vision.

    • Perseverance.

  • How many hours do you work a day on average?

    • 12 hours

  • To what do you most attribute your success?

    • Hard work and not giving up.

  • How do you go about marketing your business? What has been your most successful form of marketing?

    • My primary focus of marking is through SEO, making my website searchable.

  • Where did your organizations funding/capital come from and how did you go about getting it? How did you obtain investors for your venture?

    • My company is funded solely by me, so far.

  • What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

    • Making a quality product with attractive features. It is important to listen to the customers and adjust features accordingly.

  • Where you see yourself and your business in 5 – 10 years?

    • I see AquaTech Sofware Inc, producing a very attractive database that is broadly used in the industry. I envision that there will be additional product lines being developed.

  • Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

    • I’m impressed with Amazon. I think they have done amazing things for cloud computing and I appreciate using their services everyday to support AquaTech Software, Inc.

  • How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

    • It depends on how good it is. I’ll stick with my best ideas for years.

  • What motivates you?

    • Building things that people said couldn’t be built.

  • How do you generate new ideas?

    • I’ll spend a lot of time on Google. Searching from one idea to another until something inspires me.

  • How do you build a successful customer base?

    • By building quality software that won’t cause them trouble. Also by providing the best features available.

  • What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

    • Being able to pursue any idea I have without first getting permission.
